RATED FIVE STAR * * * * *
18 July – 1 August Jolande en Jan Jolink – Netherlands
What have we enjoyed our vacation at La Chatouillette. We love Normandy but La Chatouillette had something extra for us.We are very glad that we have already booked for next year. The fishing experience was exeptional, the place was enchanting and what can I say about you. You both are so warm, patient and charming it really felt like visiting family.
I also enjoyed fishing with my brother for a week and cleaning the river from branches. But what really made it special was dining, drinking and watching the falling stars together. And Jolande says, eating the delicious popcorn at that moment. I have also a precious memory and that is le déjeuner with you. Eating the prawns with a home made salade from your own garden Chatting about the little and great things in live and enjoying our meal.
Or you can use het Nederlandse stuk (the dutch words) .
Many thanks and see you again. Met vriendelijke groet,
Patricia and Rick – Netherlands July 2020
A place to relax
A time to fish
A time to laugh
A time to breath
A time to forget about the world
Josie and Allan hartelijk bedankt Tot volgend jaar
17th – 25th August – Sasha, Alasdair, Daniel and Briar – Worcs, UK
It was wonderful to see the new areas at La Chatouillette that you have created Allan and Josie, both in the gardens and by the river. We had another magical time. Briar loved the dragonflies, the damoelflies, pond skaters and orb web spiders.
The colours and sweep of the garden, river and lake are beautiful – you’ve wrestled with Nature in equal partnership!
25th – 30th August – Liz, Matt and Jake, England
We have never felt so at home in a place so far away from our own. The Gite, the river and the jetty all felt so familiar. (Jake, 14 – Shamwari is the cutest cat to ever live!)
17th August – 19th August – Billy and Lori DeChard, New Hamphire, USA.
What a pleasure it was to spend time at La Chatouillette with you and your family. We had a wonderful time, full of magical moments that we now carry home as memories.
10th – 17th August 2019 – Gail and Paul Gardner – Bury, Lancs, U.K.

4th August – 9th August 2019 – Rick and Patricia, Ommen, Holland.
Na een drukke periode in Nederland weer helemaal tot rust gekomen bij Josie en Allan.
Stokbrood en een emmertje mais hebben deze week garant gestaan voor een paar mooie vissen. Many thanks!

So good to see you both again so soon … Let’s not make it too long before the next visit
10 July – 13 July 2019 – Sara and Graham Soale, England
Thank you Josie and Allan for a lovely stay in your beautiful Gite. You both made us feel so very welcome. The Gite is so comfortable to stay in and Graham thoroughly enjoyed the fishing (and twice meeting the famous Wiggly Woo!) We hope to return for a longer stay to explore the area more another time.
13 July – 20 July 2019 – Gerhard, Esté, Charl and Eben Retief, England
This is a piece of paradise, peaceful, tranquil with beauty all around. This is a place where you can just sit, meditate and absorb Nature in all its’ splendour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay – just relaxing and occasionally visiting beautiful places like the Fosse Arthur and historical Domfront (so close to your doorstep.) Thank you very much Allan and Josie. You are very kind, gently and inspirational. Hope to come back some time to a really mushi (African word for lovely) place. All the best.
30 June – 06 June 2019 – Tom and Maureen Woodward and Malcolm and Jackie Scales.
This is our fifth visit to La Chatouillette and each visit is more enjoyable than the last. The fishing was excellent with at least ten fish caught each day. Our hosts are some of the nicest people we have met making us most welcome. We’re looking forward to visit number six!
Clare Stewart, London – May 2019
A slice of Africa has been dropped into Normandy. You have both created a place where Nature and family can mingle. I never sleep as deeply as when I am at La Chatouillette. The gardens and water bring such joy to all of us. I wish we could visit more often. Here’s to more happy memories.
Roisin Weetman, England – May 21019
A truly beautiful place! Josie and Allan have created a most peaceful environment full of Nature. I feel so privileged to be here. Enjoyed such incredible food and drink plus afternoons of endless conversation and laughter.

Mags and Nick – Wimbledon, UK – 24-08-18 – 08-09-18
After twenty years of coming to France this is only the second time we know we’ll come back to the same place. The Gite is perfectly set out with lots of light and everything you could possibly need. The gardens are beautifully looked after and the grounds are stunning. The lake is beautiful and bountiful. Twenty two hours fishing over the two weeks netted 39 fish – 473 pounds in total. Josie, Allan (and Ginny) – what can we say? – warm, friendly, caring and interesting people – and of course ‘little Shami.’ – A’bientot!
Daniel (aged 14) – Malvern, England – 18-08-18 – 24-08-18
This is a beautiful French paradise with a large lake, a forest and a river running through the property. The garden has been organized to perfection. The owners are lovely people with interesting stories to tell. I would highly recommend this place because it is so quiet and has interesting towns to visit just a few miles out.
Briar (aged 9) – Malvern, England – 18-08-18 – 24-08-18
This wonderful paradise is an amazing 8 acres transformed by the owners from fields of unkempt grass into neatly mown expanses of lush green plant life. It is an amazing site for anglers because the large Carp lake has many flat surfaces to fish from. On the edge of the property there is a river running through a forest which is a relaxing place to sit and read a book in the evenings. There is also a beautiful water garden with solar fairy lights in the surrounding trees.
Peter, Sabina and Jutla – Germany – 11-08-18 – 18-08-18

Rick and Patricia – Holland – 07-05-14-05-18
07-04-18- 14-04-18 The Beal Family, Molesley, Surrey, UK
Another amazing week! We caught 56 Carp up to 20.06 pounds. George landed the first Carp of the Season. Iris and George both had PB’s. We heard the Cuckoo many times after Allan charmed it earlier in the week. Gorgeous walks and cycle rides. Lunch and dinner at St George de Rouelley restaurant was excellent. Our walk to the Roman Bridge was beautiful. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness. We’ve been so happy here. Take care – we’ll be back soon. Luke and Jennie. Thank you for taking us to the farm. We enjoyed feeding the animals. Fishing was really fun. Allan and Josie are kind and really helpful. We played table tennis and enjoyed fishing and walking by the river Iris and George.

Lovely people and a lovely place – Gite fantastic! Paul, Kyle and Isaac really enjoyed the fishing catching fish up to 21.8 lbs. Together they caught over 800 lbs of fish in a week! Kyle and Isaac really enjoyed playing cricket – it was a hit! I found the war memorial where my Granddad is buried. THANK YOU to Josie for helping me to find it. We had lovely walks and fantastic weather. We will recommend this place.
29.08.17 -12.08.17 Luke, Jennie, Iris, George Beal, Molesey, Surrey, UK
Thank you for such an amazing holiday at La Chatouillette. You’ve helped make many unforgettable memories for us and our children … driving a tractor to make a cricket pitch, baking ginger biscuits, looking for chicken eggs and making mole scarers just to name a few.
We felt welcome from the very first moment we arrived and it was quite a sight to see a floating guitar duet within the first thirty minuets of arriving!
We felt relaxed and calm for our whole stay and loved the peace and tranquility of the place. The gardens and wildlife are amazing and the lake and the river are a pleasure to be beside. The night skies were superb and both Iris and George saw their first shooting stars.
We all caught loads of Carp including the famous ‘Wiggly Woo’ mirror … but the Catfish remained illusive!
This was our first ever family holiday abroad and it couldn’t have been any better. We shall DEFINITELY be back. Thanks so much!
I, Iris, caught the first fish and it was 12.5 pounds and the biggest fish me and George caught was 15 pounds. We caught 16 Crayfish in the river and a stone leach. We put them all back.
22-07-17 – 29-07-17 Ken Bowes, Jennie, Andrew, Eden and Ryan, Kent UK
What a delightful place to stay for a family fishing trip. The photos on the web site do not do it justice! We caught many fish from 3lb to 25lbs. It was the best fishing trip in years for Ken who is a very experienced angler. The wildlife and flowers have been breathtaking. We saw Kingfishers, birds of prey a Heron and Swallows dancing above the lake for us. The starry sky was well worth bringing our binoculars for. This was just a wonderful week. We hope to return to this gorgeous place.
15.07.17 -22.07.17 Linda and Robert Hall
Decided to visit France on a bit of a whim. Really enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed the fishing. Robert caught the most fish and the biggest at 19 pounds 5 oz. It was very relaxing with lovely hosts who helped out with directions if needed. Many thanks.
08-07-17 – 14-07-17 Mike, Donna, Meg and Jordie, Portsmouth, UK

We got such enjoyment in a wonderful setting and will never forget this place.
We’ll come back!

This is always a fantastic place to come and visit two extraordinarily lovely people, Josie and Allan who give such an outstanding welcome and love to all who visit La Chatouillette. This is an incredibly beautiful place to spend time and renew energy to tired minds and bodies. I shall never forget my times spent here. Bless you both.
27-05-17 – 03-06-17. Graham and Linda Ward, Worksop, England.
A little bit of heaven here on Earth. We’ve had a wonderfully relaxing time, good food, good wine and excellent company. Thank you for your warm welcome and for giving Graham the experience of catching his biggest fish.
13-04-17 to 20-04-17 Margaret and Terry Guyton and Amanda and Martin Catchpole. Norfolk England.
Our holiday was primarily booked around fishing and this proved to be every bit as good as advertised. We all immediately commented on how quickly we felt relaxed in this little bit of paradise.
Cosy beds, cosy surroundings we ‘made camp’ at once.
Allan and Josie cannot do enough for you (like cooking our sausages in an emergency!) and a welcome gift of wine and eggs etc.
You must visit madam’s restaurant in GER – lunchtimes only with set menu where there is traditional French hospitality at very good value.(Our second visit proved equally as good.)
St Hilaire-du-Harcouet’s Wednesday market is busy and a good menu at La Mail opposite the church.
Fishing netted a total of 93 fish – so our men were very happy!
Thank you for sharing your ‘Normandy paradise’.
22-04-17 to 28-04-17 Norbert, Petra, Sanne and Bas Herremans. The Netherlands.
Thanks to you Allan and Josie. From the first second we arrived we already felt very welcome here. It’s very nice that you share you’re little paradise with other people. We enjoyed our stay very much and also Bas (13) and Sanne (15) really liked it here. For a family with teenagers La Chatouillette has got everything you need and more – a lake with beautiful Carp, table tennis, trampoline, pool table and so on. We also enjoyed the sunshine in your beautiful garden listening to all the birds singing. Almost every evening we encountered one of two deer during our walk through the gardens. Thanks Allan for taking us on an adventurous walk to the Roman bridge and thanks Josie for the fresh rhubarb. We really enjoyed it. And of course thanks for the pleasant conversations and the hospitality. We shall have to come back some time for more fishing … Sanne definitely wants to catch the Catfish.
We also enjoyed the beautiful Normandy surroundings with Mont Saint Michel as a special highlight.
03 -04-17 – 10-04-17 Tom, Daisy, Poppy and Charlotte Bowden, London.
Dear Allan and Josie,
Thank you for a most relaxing and enjoyable week. The girls have adored being at La Chatouillette and especially your company (and that of the cat and the chickens!) Your recommendations for shopping and the markets were perfect and we have enjoyed some delicious food. I’ve also enjoyed my (semi) daily pedal to Barenton for supplies. Next time I’ll bring my road bike. Thank you again for taking so much trouble to make the holiday so enjoyable for everyone.
Message from Poppy … Charlotte and I really enjoyed feeding the chickens and fishing.

The family had a good time in a beautiful Gite next to the lake which is located on the spectacular estate owned by Allan and Josie.
We managed to land some great looking fish. In four days we caught 25 Carp weighing up to 12 kg.
We really enjoyed Nature, fishing and the hospitality of the hosts.

Our second trip here – Mortain has an outdoor pool only 4 Euros per adult and 2 Euros per child! Nice walks around the waterfalls and up the hill to small historic church overlooking the valley. The Fosse Arthur is also a great place for walks around the lake and stream, rock climbing and great view points. Visited Mont St Michel, a good day out! At La Forte Mace there’s a very good English tearoom with a proper English breakfast! The cake shop in Barenton is very good and the Supermarket stocks all you need. We are leaving making plans for next time.
Wind in the East fish bite the best. Over 500 pounds of fish caught with my PB of 23 pounds.

4 April – 14 April 2015, Anita, Vince, Zimmas and Kurt (the little dog)
I think we have lost track of time! I almost wrote the date as 1954! Never before has this man caught quite so many fish! Thank you for making us feel at home here on our first holiday anywhere other than Britain. It’s been very special and hopefully won’t be the last. Ten days go past too fast and we wish we didn’t have to go. Many thanks.

13 – 20 September 2014 Peter and Jenny Meadows, Bishops Waltham, England.
This is our 9th visit and it is always a calm, tranquil and mostly rain free week. It was lovely to share Josie’s birthday with Pete. Thank you. Jenny.
Fishing still spot on! Cheers and keep happy. Pete.
05 – 13 September 2014 Martin, Barry and Brian, Birmingham, England.
What interesting hosts Josie and Allan are. Nothing is too much trouble for them to make your stay as special as it can be. The surroundings are so picturesque and relaxing. Our primary reason for visiting was the fishing and we had a super week with 1791 pounds between the three of us. All fish were fantastically conditioned, hard fighting Carp up to 25 pounds.
We found the most successful methods were single 15mm boilie in a method feeder. Boilies were sticky krill flavour, CC Moores – live system and Equinox. Also, floating bread crust worked well.
If you’re contemplating booking at La Chatouillette, do so quickly!!
17 -26 August 2014 Amanda, Peter, Pip and Jody, Oxfordshire, England.
We had an excellent time in this very comfortable Gite. Good walks at Fosse Arthour as well as good crepes – venue very close by. Lots of interesting places to visit – full of history! And, after each days busy sight seeing, village visiting or walking, great to have all the Gite facilities. Much use was made of the pool table, the table tennis and the Carp lake. Didn’t spend much time fishing but we all caught double figure fish.
09 – 16 August 2014 Keith, Sally and Tim, England.
An excellent weeks fishing in a tranquil and phone free environment. Great hosts – lots of information. 800 + pounds of Carp caught during the week, up to 20 pounds plus.
02 August – 09 August 2914 – Will and Dawn, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
We have had a brilliant week. Allan and Josie are just lovely. They are first class hosts. Our biggest regret is coming for just one week.. It will be two next summer. The Gite is fantastic and has everything you need and the grounds are wonderful. We had numerous Carp from the lake in excess of 20 pounds. The woods and the river are very peaceful and we saw three deer. Take your time here, unwind, its an excellent place to relax. The local villages have all the facilities and are only a few minuets drive away. Go to the biscuit factory at Lonlay-l’ Abbaye, five minutes away and pick up some bargains! We should have bought more! Thank you Allan and Josie, we’re looking forward to coming back already.

Your Gite is wonderful. The pool table and table tennis were very welcome – thank you very much!’

During my stay in France I was lucky enough to experience La Chatouillette. It is simply gorgeous. Perfect for entire family or special occasion. The cycling and walking around the ancient grounds is mind blowing.
If you like to fish, there are plenty of them that even I caught one. I can’t wait to go back. It is very private and low-key and really the perfect escape at the most reasonable costs. The owners happen to be my family
so I probably got the best discount of all. Spring, Summer and even the Autumn months are beautiful. Their site is easy to book and plan and beaches are close by. It is the place for relaxation; writing; healing;
painting; and generally reconnecting with ones self of loved ones. Plenty to do for all age groups.
‘Thank you for a joyful, restful time. Have loved being with you.’ ~ Enjoy! xM

‘Normandy is so easy to get to. Fantastic rest stop at La Chatouillette. A rustic chic “Gite” in the middle of forests, lakes and fields surrounded by fabulous antiques and food and wine.
Planning our return. Thank you.’ – Dick & Stephanie M. (New York)
‘The Gite – Excellent standard of accomodation, spacious, comfortable and clean with all ammenities required. The surroundings very peaceful and relaxing with pleasant views from the balcony.
The Fishing – Excellent fishing for one serious angler or the the occassional fishermen. Although not ‘easy’ the fishing is good enough to keep the most anglers happy (me certainly) in the expectation of a good fish.
I beat my old personal best several times. When not in pursuit of the monsters the rudd, tench and small carp will keep anybody busy on float tackle, virtually a fish a chuck. For it’s size the ‘lake’ holds a good head of large fish’. – M. Lewis-Burd (Wales)
